This week, Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association announced that Amanda Schwichtenberg, has been awarded with two Silver Star Awards. Schwichtenberg is a program manager for the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District’s Recreation and Community Services department.

According to the School District’s Recreation and Community Services Director, Shelly Strasser, “Silver Star awards are the state association's highest honor bestowed upon departments and professionals for their exemplary work in the field.  We are proud of Amanda’s creativity and leadership.”

Schwichtenberg
received a Silver Star Award in the Special Events Category for coordinating the Recreation Department's annual Mother and Daughter Tea.  “We’ve been holding this event for four years. Last year, we had over 100 people attend. Shining Strings performs and Miss West Allis comes to speak.  School Pics provides free photos for moms and their daughters. We serve sweets with a variety of tea pairings. We’re proud of how popular this event has become.”

Schwichtenberg’s
second Silver Star was earned in the Adult Enrichment Category for an event called Mystery Trip.  “This is the second year, we’ve offered this event for adults. Participants sign up but they do not know where we’re headed!  About halfway to the location, we pass out an envelope and everyone learns where they are spending the day. We’ve gone to Sister Bay, New Glarus, the Jelly Belly Factory, to outlet malls for shopping, and to a musical.  We’ve doubled the number participants in this fun event.”

Schwichtenberg
will be presenting information about her work and receiving her awards at the WPRA annual State Conference at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
