This fall, students at Jefferson Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School begin their day with a Morning Mile. Before school starts, students gather and run laps together.

The number of laps are recorded by the playground supervisor and students earn a charm for every five miles they run. Students can choose which mornings they want to run and can run as many laps as they would like for as long as they like.

“At Franklin, even parents are joining in and walking with children,” says Shannon Danhoff, Phy Ed teacher at Franklin.

Dylan says, “I love the Morning Mile as it helps me to wake up early each morning and start my day. I am also working on improving my speed”. Dylan is Franklin’s first student to complete five miles this year. Gable, a second grade student says, “I love it! It is so fun.”

The Morning Mile program, created by Fitz Koehler, is offered through Fitzness sponsored by Under Armour. “It’s a great opportunity for students to exercise before the start of the school day. It helps promote wellness and being active!” said Phy Ed Teacher, Aaron Barthuly.
